A Layover
Lakaya M. Peeples 5/15/11
Layover, layover, its time for a layover.
Its time to give the brain a chance to rest,
Time to stretch,
Time to refresh,
Its a layover.
Layover-- before you pick up the "dramas" and the pests,
The little angels, and all the rest,
Get yourself relieved of all the stress,
The heat of the engine that burned your toes,
Those write up reviews that make your mind slow,
The map of route 1 thats stuck in the membranes,
Stop it. Get out. Stretch. Bend at the waist.
Be quiet for a minute or run in place.
Whatever you need to do to clear out the mind...
So you can do route 2 as if it were the very first time.
A layover...you know its true...
You need one to keep the mental trash from building up on you.
That kid that was rude and called you a name,
Who will get on the bus tomorrow and expect to be treated the same...
The same respect...that they wont give you.
The same compassion that they dont know they need...
Until its gone...give it to them anyway...thats how you suceed.
But in the meantime...its pecolating, festering, driving you insane....thats what it will do if left stuck in your brain.
You find yourself slouching, they stole your energy,
A layover is needed to return to joy and synergy.
Its a layover...get off that bus and dance and sing,
Eat something, drink some coffee, just do your thing...
But make it snappy cuz you only have 15.
15 minutes is that enough? yep you betcha...
You that kinda tough. Then when its time for route 2...
All those kids see is the renewed you.
Its a layover, a layover, a lay o ver!

Flower agate
Blue Agate and Antique Silver Earrings
Pink Forever...
Doesn't happen often...but every now and then....my toes match my hands. The color is called pink forever. Of course....I may end up changing the nail color in a week if I mess it up while making jewelry, or painting or something ...but for now....everything is a matched set. This will be my summer color. Isn't it the cutest! The toes need a second coat...then they'll be ready for sandals...the one pair I own....to show off my perfect pedicure.
I just love this color. I am concerned that it is the only color I've ever used that isn't made by OPI but every color can't be an OPI. Haas long ha hopefully it will last as long...time will tell. It cost a 1.00 where as OPI is 7.00. That's all for now. Going to play a bit of Rio and then off to sleep.
Angry Birds Rio: Golden Fruits
If you're like me...you love your video games...with a passion. Well my latest passion is Angry Birds Rio. Just when you think you are finished with the game...they upgrade and add levels. I have Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio. Rio is new...so new in fact that they only have 4 complete levels for it when downloaded and an incomplete level that says "coming soon" on the second half. Next update should finish that out. In the meantime since I have completed all the levels...I went back and started gathering the hidden fruits. Fortunately...I wrote down where I found what.
Failed update and the game wouldn't load...they announced the fix would be ready on the next update but it was easier for me to uninstall and then reinstall the game. What I failed to remember was unstalling the game andnot the update erases all the scores and awards. So now I'm starting over. One day and I've already "recompleted" level one which took a week the first time, haha. I have also been gathering my fruits along the way.
Not to distract from your fun...I won't tell you how to get the fruits unless asked but I will tell you the rounds you can find them in. Look below.
Golden Pineapples:
1-2, 1-6, 1-7, 1-8, 1-12, 1-13, 2-1, 2-2, 2-4, 2-6, 2-7, 2-8, 2-10, 2-12, 2-15.
Golden Bananas:

Golden Watermelons:

Wired...accented...and waiting.
These will be earrings 10 pairs of earrings and 1 necklace. They have been placed on sterling silver hard wire and some are accented with beads. Now they wait for the cramps to leave my hands so that I can continue. Its my own fault...I usually do a pair a week. So why did I think prepping this many rocks was a good idea for one sitting? Ahahaha anyway...I had fun with the prep...let the work begin!
Flower agate earrings. These rocks rock!
More on the way...this is my pair. Your opportunity to get a pair is coming up after I create them. Stay tuned.

Preliminary length check
It always surprises folks when they see just how much my hair can curl....its almost like they assume its a wig cuz one day they see me with hair past my chin...then they see my hair in its totally natural...out of the shower state and they can't believe its the same hair. Haha a kid on my bus asked me, "how many packs of rollers make that style?" When I told her all I did was add water...she didn't believe me. Haha oh well, she'll live, grow and learn to understand hair texture as time goes by.
Once I straiten it more...I'll be able to tell the length in inches. In the meantime...an eyeball measure will have to do.
Freedom week puff
To get this style....I put two headbands around my neck, pour water on hair, pull the headbands to the center of head and then shake in every direction and I'm done. I wear it this way for a week...freedom week. Then protect it for a month...braids, twists, scarves, geles, wraps, etc. Then another freedom week. Also during freedom week....length check, trim if needed, deep condish, etc. Since the mini chop in January where I cut it 3 inches...it has grown 6 inches...I have 6 more months to go on the challenge. Hopefully by the end of the challenge the length will be 10 to 12 inches...as long as its healthy....doesn't matter if it stays this length.
New inventory bag
Just looking at it gets my creative thoughts going. And the shocker...its made from 100% polypropylene aka: recycled milk cartons. Gotta love that! Every edge is hemmed and stitched down and the bottom is reinforced...and it costs 1.49!
I'm loving this bag!

3 layer moisturizer
3 layer hair moisturizer...fun to look at and good for your hair.
This has the standard base of water, glycerine and oil....and vinegar, an infusion of peppermint, sage and rosemary tea...and not a bit of chemicals or color.
I had brewed up some of this hair healty tea a while back and
made too much...so I put it in a bag...froze it. And when the bottle was almost empty...I snipped off the corner of the bag...fed the snipped corner into the mouth of the bottle and carefully lifted the other end of the bag...thereby making a funnel.
Of course the tea floated over the gycerine and the oil floated on top of that. Density ya know. One good shake and its ready to go. My hair loves this stuff ... esspecially when braided or twisted. Give it a try...brew a tea of your favorite hair friendly herbs that are probally already in your kitchen, add 2 tablespoons ...or more vinegar, 1/4 olive oil, 1/4 vegetable glycerine. Use in place of the overpriced braid spray you've been buying. If you don't have glycerine, don't like vinegar, or perfer not to use oil...just use the tea. Works and smells great. Store in fridge if you don't use vinegar. You can store at room temperture if you do use vinegar.

Safty Vest...revisited...and redesigned pocket.
At my job....we wear safety vests. Love it. It reduces risk of injury by insuring you are seen. The problem with my safety vest was the pastic window pocket. When its hot outside.... heat from the sun would feel as if it concentrated there. Then to make matters worse...things would fall out of it as the plastic window was rigid.
The solution....soft, organdy fabric....used the trim that came from the window pocket like bias tape and bordered some organdy prepped like a drawstring bag. Then I stitched it down where the original pocket was and this is the result.
Now the pocket moves with me, is still see-thru as required and when carrying something important in it...like my id badge...I can pull the drawstring to prevent it from falling out.
Should you attempt this...turn item over and trace the stitch line from the original pocket with a pencil or washable felt marke...this way there's no guess on where to apply the replacement pocket. The rest is just basic....so basic in fact...it only took me 15 to 20 mins to sew it by hand. Try it.

Getting hair ready for summer...micro twists!
I can feel the wind on my scalp now! This is a protective style that can be styled. I can roll it, curl it, braid it, ponytail it, or leave it.
Conditioning often is a must to prevent the hair from locing. Any twist that threaten to loc...will be taken down, combed thru and then re-twisted. I do that a lot when I wear styles like this for extended periods of time. Esspecially the first 2 or 3 rows in the front. One time I "refreshed" the front and everyone assumed I had redone my whole head.
Also...make sure to use a daily moisture spray when sporting this type of style...keeps your scalp healty. Give it a try. Microbraiding may take days..micro twists only takes hours and last for weeks.
As you can see in the pics...the hair lays flater and neater than when left to dry naturally. Even better....when you wet it...particularly when you leave some loose at the ends...it will still curl. Your natural curl pattern is stronger than the micro twists...and it gives a very cute presence.
