This week I made Mango Papaya, The Perfect Man, and "What's in it?" Cold process soaps. Peppermint Cocoa Butter melt and pour soaps. Conquered the soap rack lack...storage problem. I made stackable cardboard box trays...lined them with paper twoels and that's where I'm curing the soaps...each tray holds an entire batch of soap.
Now the dining room table is free and no one is fussing at me.
I started with a mango butter soap and added mango papya fragrance.
Ingredients
Mango Butter
Coconut Oil (76 Degrees)
Castor Oil
Palm Oil
Shortening (Vegetable)

I decided to test my new scale and my new molds with this recipe. I over insulated when putting it to bed and the soap superheated. Becuz of the liner and the plastic wrap, it stayed contained instead of "volcanoing" and looked foamy when I woke it up. When I cut it....it had this neat effect. The ph is 8, by the time its done curing....it will probally be down to 7. Becuz it overheated....it went through the gel process and cooked in the mold...like hot process without being a hot process soap. Its actually safe to use right now...but I'm going to go ahead and cure it like a good soapy girl should.
The lather test is on March 13, 2013 and curing will be complete on April 17, 2013. I've been giving my soaps 6 weeks instead of 4. No particular reason, just seemed like the thing to do since most recipes say 4 to 8 weeks. 6 is in the middle of that....so I figure best to be safe than sorry.
The molds...I call them Lucy molds were gotten from Etsy at SoapMoldsByLucy's shop. They don't require a lining but I lined them anyway. If I have more than one batch planned, I can go to the next batch without having to wash it as all the soap was contained in the lining which when removed with the soap, leaves the mold clean and ready for the next pour.
Unlike the Good! soap, which isn't for sale as every bar has been gifted, the mango papaya prroduced 21 bars....enough for personal use and to sale. Stay tuned.
I now have a professional grade scale....holds 0.001 oz up 15 pounds.....and has a "gunk guard" love that thing. What better way to celebrate a new scale than with a weight intesive soap recipe! I used a no liner 5.5 hdpe mold that I lined anyway. When you are making multiple batches...easier to lift up the lined soap, reline...and pour a new batch right away. No need to wash the mold as all the contents are contained within the lining.
So....now there's a 5.5 pound of mango papaya soap that I just put to bed resting in the other room. This scale has a hold...and a tare features and can use diffferent measures from kg to oz to what ever you need.
The soap has coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, and a double helping of mango butter. This should make a very solid bar as half way thru the recipe I realized there was only solid oils in this recipe. That is probally why it came to trace in only 5 mins. Smells wonderful with mango papaya scent.
Today is 3/6/13 so it will be finished curing arouund the end of April...stay tuned.
"Good" soap....not the soap I planned for my first cp soap but still good.
Its got soybean, caster, macademia nut, canola, coconut oils and mango butter. Confetti scent which is kinda like coffee and peppermint.
I'll be able to cut it tomorrow or the next day. Lather test in a week....and a 6 week curing time after that. Then it will be ready to sell.
I love the brambleberry soap calculator app I bought to check measurements as it allows me to save recipes and therefore remake any soap exactly.
Very cool...fave color, good price. There is a small crack in the included measuring cup but it still holds liquid and I don't use it anyway...the blender has such power that when used its capable of intense suction....lifts a small bowl up while spining it if not being held.....that's what I paid for...don't care about the cup.
Made some soap with it....happy camper.
