Micro braiding basics
Needed: comb, clips, spray, paitience, time.
First...clean and condish your hair. Comb thru and detangle. Section it into at least 8 sections.....I usually make sure i have a center part that way its strait should i decide to wear it split. Now make sure you have a moisturizing spray to rewet sections...or dampen sections if you are doing it on dry hair. When working sections, complete each section. Dont stop in the middle and "get back to it later"
Now starting with the first section...make the first braid part slightly circular...no larger than the width of a pencil. Split into 3 secotions and braid "LOOSELY" down the length of the hair. Do not split or blend if the braid is thinner than the width of a pencil. Dont worry...your hair will not unravel unless its extreemely strait...and for that type of hair...setting gel on the ends will work fine.
For each section or as needed...spray a moisturizer on the hair. Go to the next braid...clipping the previous braid out of the way. When the entire section is done...twist or braid it and anchor it out of the way with clips.
Allow yourself 8 hours...or one hour per section. May not take you that long to do a section but if you cant sit for 8 hours...and say you only have 2 hours...thats two sections. Plan to wear scarves and hats while you are working on it...or if you are like me...dont worry about it. Folks that see your hair can see that its in progress and will shut up with the way stupid comments like "do something with your hair" cuz they can clearly see...you are doing something. If i need to go to the store...I go.
While braiding ...avoid pulling on hair. When you detangle avoid pulling on hair. There shouldnt be any pulling at the scalp level. In fact...you shouldnt even feel the braid at the scalp level...if you do...its too tight. If you happen to be heavy handed...place a comb flush against the scalp, start braiding over it and remove the comb from the finshed braid. This will give you a 1/4 inch rise from the scalp which looks the exact same and feels weightless which is what you want.
When completely done with all sections...spray completely...work into all braids making sure clips are gone....and enjoy.
