The truth about my hair...

Folks always say my hair is beautiful...Thank you! And how can they get their hair like mine...sorry you can't. My hair is mine, just as your is yours. However...there are lots of things you can do to get your hair in great condition like mine. If you gonna try it...try it on a weekend. That way if this training fails you or you decide you can't deal...you can get back to what's normal for you before you have to report to work.

First things first, trim off any split ends you got. Then...stop using shampoo...you are basically putting some nice smelling dish detergent on your hair. Some folks say "concrete cleaner" which is true...same ingredients. And if your hair is curly...you never really get rid of it. Try this experiment...take a sponge....get it nice and wet...apply a single drop of dish soap to and
and give it a squeeze. This represents washing curly hair. Now rinse....rinse...rinse. Now squeeze...what do you see? Ya suds. So now
you gotta use something else to get rid of the soap...conditioner or creme rinse right?

What if I told you I haven't used chemicals in my hair since 2/8/2000? I use 5 basic items on my hair...4 of them live in the kitchen. What if I told you one of the chemicals I gave up is shampoo? YES ...shampoo is a chemical...compilation of them even.

Hey...if you want my hair...do what I do....no chemicals. Ditch that shampoo....buy a huge container of the cheapest conditioner you can find and use that as shampoo if you are just set in stone and can't change. This is called co-washing. It won't lather, obviously, but it will foam up and you will watch all the dirt go down the drain...while the hair gets clean and shiny. By the way...while washing hair...use fingers to direct hair in same direction...either toward front or toward back. Do not do that circular motion everyone thinks is effective...it causes tangles.

Co-washing is very healthy for hair, leaves is clean and moisturized and none of that detergent or petroleum in there. Also...whatever change you make...you aren't gonna see full results for about 3 weeks...takes that long for the chemical based stuff to give up and your hair to re-adjust.

Or wash like I do....baking soda...sprinkle it on your wet scalp...if hair is long here's a shortcut...part hair into 7 or 8 sections...clip
or twist. Wet the whole head of hair...then sprinkle the parts. Now untwist or unclip....and massage your scalp...with fingers pads not
nails ... adding water as needed.

This cleans your scalp and your hair. You can also do this if your hair is totally braided up. Let this sit for one min...in a pitcher pour 1/2
cup to 1 cup of vinegar {white, red, or apple cider (acv)...doesn't matter but I prefer the smell of acv} fill the rest with warm water. Directing your hair toward the sink and starting at the back...pour the acv water thru your hair. Don't be surprised at the bubbles...it's harmless...and it's the vinegar neutralizing and removing the baking soda. Massage your scalp while pouring. Then rinse...rinse...rinse.

If I need deep cleaning...I mix 2 tbs brown sugar to conditioner together and use that

Then here's where I really vere off course of the norm...comb hair...trim any tangles at ends...I only get tangles when ends split...so that's dust trim time. Use Crisco shortening mixture....[[buy yourself the smallest can label it "hair"....take a
knife and score thru to bottom and across to end...several sections...don't remove from can...into the scores pour extra virgin
olive oil ...or oil of your choice some swear by canola...anyway...to this...10 drops of peppermint oil is not a bad thing. Now gently stir....use the knife to score smaller sections to help blending if
needed. When it's nice and creamy...it's ready. If you live with a cook like I do... scoop it into a new container....[[old hair care or gel container or something.]] apply this to the hair about a tbs or 2...no more than that...ends first....then to rest of the hair. This is your conditioner. Twist, braid or comb thru...wrap with a silk, satin, or smooth scarf...that isn't cotton. Leave on until hair dries...or overnight.

In the morning....take down or wear a different scarf and go do what you do in a day. When you take the hair down...use your fingers. No comb at this point as dry hair and comb equals frizz. There should only be shiny, non greasy hair. If it's white or greasy...you used too much. I do this once a week. Also...esspecially useful for braided hair...plain olive oil in a spray bottle. Spritz the scalp instead of the crisco. That's it. That's all I do. No other products...none needed.

These girls got it going on! Everything I do to my hair...they do to theirs...and then blog about it. Which is a good thing...and saves me the trouble of doing it, cuz they got it all covered. Haha
